The project “adopt an olive” has been created with the aim of disseminating and enhancing the value of the quality of Apulia’s extra-virgin olive oil and particularly the extra-virgin olive oil made in Agro di Andria from the Coratina cultivar (typically grown in the province of Bari). Defending the identity of Apulia’s extra-virgin olive oil now becomes the leitmotiv that encourages us to create this project, at a time when the media often associates Italian extra-virgin olive oil to oils of doubtful origin and poor commercial and qualitative value.
“Adopt an olive” intends to contribute to a tangible image of high-quality extra-virgin oil from Apulia, contrasting the risk of anonymity which is involving our oil and other foodstuffs proposed to consumers through the mass retail sector (supermarkets and hypermarkets).
The project is articulated as follows: everyone who adheres to the project can adopt one or more olive trees, depending on their annual consumption (considering that each olive tree produces an average 20 litres of oil, which is about equivalent to the annual consumption of a family, each subscriber can apply to adopt 1 olive tree). Adoption applications can be submitted by several families, consumer associations, associations that pay attention to the problem of enhancing the value of natural products and by the most important testimonials of the Italian culinary art, the restaurateurs.
For every application, the producer concerning will hang an identity card indicating the adopting person or family on the tree adopted, and a photo of the tree will be sent to them along with an invitation to come and see the olive trees during harvest time (November-January) and to follow the production process, spending time visiting the beautiful surrounding area. For each tree, there is a symbolic adoption fee of €10, and a guarantee that the price applied to the oil after milling will remain at the level set initially, without increases.
Throughout the year the oil ordered by the families concerned will have exactly the same price agreed to and the same quality of oil will be guaranteed by the producer.
